WARNING
On no account should springs and shock absorbers
be used if they do not correspond to the characteris-
tics of standard parts or parts obtainable as special
equipment. Alterations may mean that the ESP
®
no longer works correctly and ultimately fails. The
driver could lose control of the vehicle and cause an
accident.

tory as a code (see chapter 4.10 “Special equip-

Brake system
a
WARNING
Incorrectly executed work on brake components
or lines in the brake system (this includes lines
for hydraulic components, air or electrical control
signals) can impair the function of the brake sys-
tem. This can cause the brake system to no longer
operate correctly and ultimately fail. Only have work
on brake components, their hoses, lines and cables
carried out by a qualified specialist workshop.
After completion of the work, check that the brake
system is working correctly. We recommend that the
brake system be inspected and approved by a technical
inspection center.
If the routing has to be altered, avoid routing across
sharp edges and through narrow cavities or near mov-
ing components.
Hydraulic brake system
•
Hydraulic brake lines must be replaced without
additional connecting points using MB-approved
double-walled wrapped tubes of 4.75 mm x 0.7 mm
or fully assembled brake lines with connecting
parts (genuine Mercedes-Benz replacement parts).
•
Suitable M10 union nuts and union screws must
be used on the line ends (genuine Mercedes-Benz
replacement parts).
•
The bending radius must be >18 mm.
•
Lines must only be shaped in a bending machine.
The cross-section must not be reduced.
•
A flare (DIN 74234) must be applied to seal the line
ends.
•
Brake lines between the master brake cylinder and
hydraulic assembly (double-walled wrapped tube
6 mm x 0.7 mm) may not be modified.
•
The inside of the lines must be cleaned before
installation.
•
The use of plastic lines in hydraulic systems is not
permissible.
•
If it is not known how long a vehicle equipped with
a hydraulic brake system has been in storage, the
brake fluid must be renewed.
•
The brake fluid must be renewed every two years.
•
For routing between two components which move
in relation to each other, a high-pressure-resistant
flexible line (brake hose, Stahlflex, etc.) must be
used. Use genuine Mercedes-Benz brake compo-
nents where possible.
•
Make sure that the flexible lines are not placed
under stress in any operating conditions and cannot
chafe against other objects.
