7.2 Bodyshell/body
7 Modifications to the basic vehicle
Drilling work on the bodyshell

Note
No drilling must take place in the following areas:
•
A-pillars and B-pillars
•
The lower flange of the frame
•
In the vicinity of the rear axle which performs a
load-bearing function
•
In the vicinity of components which are mounted
on the frame
•
Load application points (e.g. spring brackets,
brackets)
•
In positions where safety equipment is
located, see chapter 7.4.2 “Safety equipment”

Drilling in the longitudinal member web is only possi-
ble in accordance with the following illustration and if
spacer bushings welded to the longitudinal member are
used:

1 Chassis frame
2 Spacer bushings
a Distance of at least 20 % of the frame height
b Distance between drill holes at least 50 mm
After drilling, deburr and countersink all holes, remove
chips from the frame and treat the holes with body
cavity sealing.

Note
Existing holes in the longitudinal frame member
result from the production process and may only
be used if approved by means of a technical certifi-
cate from the department responsible (see chapter
1.6 “Contact” (
Page 9)).
