Ensuring traceability
There is a possibility that body-related hazards may
only be detected after the vehicle is delivered, making
retroactive market measures necessary (customer
information bulletins, warnings, recalls). To ensure that
these measures can be implemented as efficiently as
possible, it must be possible to trace the product after
delivery.
We strongly recommend that upfitters store the serial
number/identification number of their body together
with the chassis identification number of the basic
vehicle in their databases for this purpose and to allow
them to use the NHTSA or Transport Canada to deter-
mine the affected vehicle owners. On this note, the
storage of customer addresses is also recommended
as is giving subsequent owners the possibility to regis-
ter their details.
