Park position P is released if you:
R
depress the brake pedal and
R
push the E-SELECT lever forwards or back
to the first point of resistance
The transmission shifts to neutral N.
Engaging park position P automatically
Park position P is engaged automatically in
the following circumstances:
R
if you switch off the engine using the Start/
Stop button and open the driver's or front-
passenger door.
R
if you remove the key from the ignition lock.
R
if you open the door while travelling at low
speed in transmission position D or R.
Under certain conditions, the automatic
transmission shifts automatically to transmis-
sion position P if the HOLD function is acti-
vated. Observe the information on the HOLD
function (

page 153).
Engaging reverse gear R

Start the engine (

When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.

Push the E-SELECT lever forward past the
first point of resistance.
Shifting to neutral N
X
Start the engine (
Y
page 123).

When the vehicle is stationary, depress the
brake pedal.
X
Push the E-SELECT lever forwards or back
to the first point of resistance.
If you move the E-SELECT lever to N before
switching off the engine, the transmission
remains in N for approximately 30 minutes. If
you open the driver's or front-passenger door
during this period, the transmission automat-
ically shifts to P.
The transmission remains in N if:
R
the key is in the ignition lock and
R
you use the E ‑ SELECT lever to shift the
transmission to N before switching the
engine off
This still applies if you open the driver's or
front-passenger door.

If the transmission position display in the
multifunction display is not working, check
on the display next to the E-SELECT lever
whether the desired transmission position
is engaged.

program appear in the multifunction display.
In addition, displays on the trim next to the E-
SELECT selector lever indicate the current
transmission position.
