Eng Engaging all-wheel dr aging all-wheel drive ive
Conditions f Conditions for eng or engaging/diseng aging/disengaging aging
You can engage and deactivate the all-wheel drive
when stationary or while driving slowly.
When stationary, observe the following:
R
The engine is running.
R
The steering wheel in the straight-ahead posi-
tion.
If the all-wheel drive cannot be engaged when sta-
tionary:

Engaging and disengaging the all-wheel drive
can be made easier in this way.
Observe the following when driving slowly:
R
The engine is running.
R
The vehicle is not traveling faster than 6.2 mph
(10 km/h).
R
The vehicle is not being driven around a curve.
If it is not possible to engage all-wheel drive when
the vehicle is rolling:

The transfer case may be damaged if you
depress the accelerator pedal while engaging
or disengaging the all-wheel drive.

Do not depress the accelerator pedal
while the indicator lamp in the all-wheel
drive switch is ashing.
#

of switch 1 .
The indicator lamp in switch 1 ashes while
the all-wheel drive is engaged or disengaged.
The
÷ and : warning lamps light up in
the instrument display. ESP
®
and ASR are
deactivated for the duration of the shi opera-
tion. If the shi operation is successful, the
÷ and : warning lamps in the instru-
ment display go out and ESP ® and ASR are
reactivated.
As long as the indicator lamp in the switch 1 is
ashing, you can cancel the shi operation by
pressing switch 1 again. If the shi operation
fails, the indicator lamp in switch 1 brie y ashes
three times. One of the shi conditions was not
met.
If the indicator lamp in switch
1 lights up, all-
wheel drive is engaged.

If the LOW RANGE transmission ratio is
engaged, the all-wheel drive cannot be disen-
gaged.

The LOW RANGE gear reduction enables very slow
driving in the respective gears. If you engage LOW
RANGE, the engine's performance characteristics
and the automatic transmission's shi ing charac-
teristics are adjusted accordingly. The transmis-
sion ratio from the engine to the wheels is around
40% lower than in the road position. The drive tor-
que is increased correspondingly.
