7 Operation control and error handling
7.1 Operation testing
Before the first use of the TELESMART recorder, please perform the following opera-
tional checks.
1. Prepare the TELESMART recorder to be tested to take an ECG recording.
2. Record a minimum of 5 minutes of ECG data.
3. Transfer the ECG data to a PC and check the recording.
4. If the recording was made correctly, the system is working properly.
7.2 Main sources of error
The following table lists some standard sources of error:

Battery is empty
Please change the battery
The
disposable/rechargeable
battery is empty.
Replace the battery, or
insert a newly charged
battery in the recorder.
Compact flash card missing
The CF memory card is
not inserted properly or
is missing.
Insert or check the position
of the memory card to
ensure that it is properly
connected.
Patient cable missing!
Patient cable not supported!
The electrode cable is
not properly connected
or is missing. It is also
possible that the
recorder does not
support the version of
the inserted patient
cable.
Check the connectivity of
the patient cable, and make
sure that the correct cable
has been inserted.
These
sources of failure render the recorder inoperable. The error
must be corrected by the user.

The recording is too short.
Used batteries or an
insufficiently charged
battery was inserted into
the recorder, or else the
recorded signal is extremely
noisy.
Insert a new or freshly
charged battery.
No ECG data is present on
the memory card after the
recording has finished.
The recording was not
started, or had a duration of
less than 2 minutes, and
