•
Failure to secure a safety strap to the airplane before attempting to get on top of the airplane could result in
falling off while attempting to get on top of the airplane or while attempting to secure the safety strap to the
airplane.
•
Do not attach the safety strap for more than two personnel restraint kits to any one bolt assembly. Failure to
comply may result in death or injury of personnel.
NOTE
At outer wing box rib stations 604.6 and 734.7, use 4S80000-149A bolts and shorter straps for restraint
¿
ttings.
f. Secure a safety strap to the bolt assembly as follows: Position the bolt handle (34) vertically and slide the adapter end
of the strap down onto the bolt
À
ange (41). Return the handle to the horizontal position to retain the strap connection.
When the use of personnel restraint equipment is required, at least one safety strap shall be secured to an airplane
¿
tting any time a person is on top of the airplane. Failure to have at least one safety strap secured could result in
serious injury to personnel.
g. Get onto the upper surface of the airplane and proceed in the desired direction. If the safety strap does not permit
reaching the desired area, connect the second strap to a
¿
tting nearer the desired area, and then disconnect the
¿
rst
strap connected.
Disconnecting strap before getting off top of airplane could result in personnel falling while strap is disconnected.
h. Get completely off upper surface of airplane and disconnect strap. Disconnect the harness bolt assembly by rotating it
counterclockwise out of the restraint
¿
tting. Ensure that the slotted Delrin plug is
À
ush with the airplane surface.
1.3.3
Safety Harness Attach Clevis.
(See Figure 1-16.)
a. When performing engine maintenance, the safety harness attach clevis must be attached to the aft fan case at the 2
o’clock or 10 o’clock position. Use the following procedures to attach the safety harness attach clevis:
The lanyard used with the safety harness attach clevis must be no longer than 4 feet long. Shock absorbing
lanyards and deceleration devices are not authorized. Failure to comply may result in serious injury or death of
personnel.
NOTE
In the event of a fall with a person tied off to the fan case attach point, an inspection must be performed in
accordance with Aft Fan Case Attach Point Inspection (TO 1C-5M-2-4).
(1) Perform visual inspection for damage of aft fan case attachment point (6).
(2) Remove safety pin (3) with streamer (1) attached.
(3) Pull pin (2) from clevis (4).
