Failure to comply with Step a and Step b could result in injury to personnel.
NOTE
Any item noted in Step a and Step b which affects proper use of harness will be cause to reject harness assembly
as unserviceable.
a. Ensure personnel restraint kit inspection tag is within serviceable date. Check harness (5) and safety straps (7) for
evidence of damage, wear, fraying straps, loose or improper stitches; hardware for corrosion and damage; and strap
lock bar (31) for proper operation. Check the safety strap restraint bolts (18) for damage, the bolt handle (34) for
proper operation, and the attachment pin (42) for proper installation and for installation of the washer (39). Ensure
streamer (37) is attached.
b. Check safety pack (17) for evidence of tampering or damage. Check hook assemblies (19) for proper operation of
locks. Ensure seals are intact and tags showing which hook to attach to harness are securely attached.
c. Attach two safety straps (7) to the safety pack (17).
Ensure that safety pack is attached to harness per Figure 1-15. Failure to comply could result in death or serious
injury of personnel.
d. Attach safety pack (17) to back of harness (5) with three attaching straps (16) and connect proper hook (19) (metal
tagged) to harness (5). Attach the two accessory bags (11) to the harness, using the four attaching straps (32). Put on
the harness and adjust as necessary to obtain a snug
¿
t. Tuck in loose ends of harness to prevent interference with
movements of harness wearer.
NOTE
The slotted Delrin (plastic) plug is designed to keep water, debris, and other contaminants out of the threaded
¿
tting insert, and must be kept
À
ush with the airplane surface when the restraint
¿
tting is not in use. The plug
should not be removed for attachment of the harness bolt assembly since the bolt blade, once engaged in the plug
slot, will thread the plug into the
¿
tting and then return the plug to
À
ush when the harness bolt assembly is
disconnected. If the plug is discovered damaged or missing, clean out the
¿
tting and insert a new plug. For
corrosion inspection and removal, and installation of personnel restraint
¿
ttings, refer to TO 1C-5M-23, Chapter 6
through TO 1C-5M-23, Chapter 8 and TO 1C-5M-3, Chapter 3.
e. Before getting on top of the airplane, secure a harness bolt assembly to the nearest airplane
¿
tting. With the slotted
Delrin plug (44)
À
ush with the airplane surface, secure the harness bolt assembly by inserting bolt blade (40) into the
slot of the Delrin plug and rotating both components clockwise into the airplane
¿
tting until the harness bolt assembly
is seated.
