INTRODUCTION
1 PURPOSE.
This manual is one of a series of specialized maintenance manuals for the C-5M airplane. It provides the information
necessary for ground handling and servicing at the organizational maintenance level. No instructions are included in this
manual for maintenance which must be performed at the intermediate or depot maintenance levels. For a complete listing of
technical manuals covering C-5M airplanes, see List of Applicable Publications, TO 1C-5M-01.
2 USE OF WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, AND NOTES.
A WARNING is used to emphasize procedures or practices which, if not correctly followed, will result in injury to
personnel.
A CAUTION is used to emphasize procedures or practices which, if not strictly observed, will result in damage to,
or destruction of, equipment.
NOTE
A note is used to put special emphasis on a step, procedure, or condition which might otherwise be overlooked or
misinterpreted.
Warnings, cautions, and notes are used in this manual to emphasize important or critical instructions. The warning, caution,
or note will always precede the step or procedure to which it applies. The heading used, and the de

nition of each, are as
follows:
3 HOW TO LOCATION INFORMATION.
The instructions in this technical manual are organized for quick reference. To aid you, this manual contains a list of all
illustrations by illustration number, a list of tables by table number, a detailed table of contents listing chapters and the major
items discussed in that chapter, and, if manual size requires, an index locating text of systems and components by page
number. All illustrations too large for a standard size page are contained in the Fold Out pages in the back of this manual.
When it becomes necessary in this manual to differentiate between C-5M airplane con

gurations, references will be made to
the Air Force serial number. Particular care has been taken to organize the material in this manual so you can
¿
nd informa-
tion quickly. The chapters of the manual are written so the more speci
¿
c maintenance instructions are separate from the
general descriptive information. Except for the general information chapter found in the front of the manual, most chapters
are divided as follows:
3.1 Description and Leading Particulars.
Provides all descriptive information pertaining to the particular system, and
provides a general working knowledge of the complete subsystem.
3.2 Operational Checkout.
Describes in detail the procedures to operationally check the complete subsystem involved.
This check ensures that each system meets the minimum requirements to return to service.
3.3 Troubleshooting.

es special tools, test equipment, and local manufacture items required to complete trouble-
shooting. Troubleshooting procedures are contained in the associated fault isolation manual which is referenced from this
paragraph.
