(6)  Remove the hydraulic hoses from the back 

of the steering pump unit. (Fig 5 Item 1) Be 
careful not to spill hydraulic oil in the dash. 

 

(7)  Remove the nuts from the studs on the 

front side of the dash (Fig 6 Item 1) and 
remove the steering pump. 

 

Installation: 

(1)  Reverse the above procedure for 

installation. 

 

(2)  After allowing the engine to come to operating temperature, check the fluid                                                          

level in the steering reservoir. 

 
16.   MASTER CYLINDER/BOOSTER 
ASSEMBLY: 

Removal: Fig 7 

(1)  From inside the driver’s side front 

compartment, disconnect both 
brake lines (1) from the right side 
of the master cylinder. 

 
(2)  Disconnect the line from the 

firewall mounted fluid reservoir. (2) 

 
Note:  Be ready to catch fluid from reservoir or 
block end of brake reservoir line. 
 

(3)  From inside the cab, remove the brake pedal return spring, the cotter pin, and 

clevis pin from the booster pushrod.  Remove rubber boot  (Fig 8 Item 4) from 
booster pushrod. 

 

(4)  Remove the four bolts securing the master cylinder/booster assembly.  

 

(5)  Remove both hydraulic lines (Fig 7 Item 3) from booster being sure to mark 

their locations.
