TROUBLESHOOTING AND CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE

Muffled grinding noise.

Faulty wheel bearings - could

be insufficient fluid or high

pre-stress or excessive play on

bearings.

Damaged gearing - could be

insufficient fluid, excessive play in

bearings.

Pump cavitation.

• Determine if noise is in the front or
rear.
• For front - See “Wheel Bearings,
Seals, and Races,” on

• For rear - See “Hydrostatic Drive
Motor - Rear,” on

• See “Hydrostatic Pump,” on
page 3-35.
• Dismount gear box and examine
for

damage.

• See “Replace Hydrostatic Drive
Motor,” on

• Inlet to pump blocked. Check tank
outlets for blockage.

Clicking noise during a turn.

Loose or shifting component.

• Try to isolate the area of the noise,

then check for loose parts,
misalignment, load shifting, etc.

• Check that components are in
place and properly torqued.

Pump making noise.

Pump intake partially blocked.

Air leaks at the intake or shaft

seal. (Oil in reservoir could

possibly look foamy).

Damaged pump/motor

mounting.

• Check the fluid condition and, if
needed drain and flush the hydraulic
system. Refill with clean oil.
• See “Change Hydraulic Oil,” on
page 2-16, Planned Maintenance.
• Check intake lines (hoses and
fittings) and seals for leaks. Repair
all leaks.
• Repair and/or replace.
