Wheel Rake
8.7
Adjusting rake wheel ground
pressure
From the working position:
- Remove clip (1).
- Retrieve the wrench (3) supplied with the machine
and turn the adjustment rod (2) to adjust ground
pressure.
- Turn the adjustment rod clockwise to decrease
ground pressure.
- Turn the adjustment rod counter-clockwise to
increase ground pressure.
- The adjustment rods toward the rear of the
machine can be set at a different length than those
toward the front of the machine for varied rake
pressure in the front and rear of the rake. The length
of the adjustment rod through the bracket (distance
A) will range between 2" (5.1 cm) and 4" (10.2 cm)
in normal working conditions.
- When adjustments are complete, return the
wrench to its holder. Reinstall clip (1).
If ground pressure needs further reduction after the
adjustment rod (2) has been turned all the way
through the bracket, the individual rake wheels can
be adjusted.
The spring (4) on each rake wheel can be hooked
through different links in the chain (5). Reducing the
number of links (5) between the spring (4) and the
bracket (6) decreases the ground pressure.
Before adjusting, maintaining or repairing
the machine, perform the safety shutdown
procedure.
The rake wheels are activated as the tines
engage the field during operation. Adjust the
ground pressure for good raking action
without damaging the crop.
The ground speed also affects raking
performance. When testing ground pressure,
be sure to operate the rake at normal ground
speeds.
