Set Up Overview
The GEC5 is a very flexible system that can be used in a number of different learning situations with any combination of
digital instruments regardless of brand. Both with and without computers, below, are some common lab situations using the
GEC5: Keyboard and Piano Lab, Guitar Lab, Language Lab, and Multi-Purpose Technology Lab. When you are ready to set up
your Teacher Unit, you will need to decide if you are going to have a wired connection (Cat5 cable directly from your Teacher
Unit to your computer) or a wireless connection (with the help of a wireless router).
Wired Teacher Workstation:
This setup is for labs without a wireless router. In this setup there is no option for tablet connectivity. See Fig. 10 for a
detailed diagram.
1. Front:
a.
Audio device (iPod, laptop, etc.) to Teacher Unit Aux In 1.
b.
Headphones to headphone input.
2. Back:
a.
AC power adapter to power input.
b.
Keyboard audio output to Instrument In.
c.
Computer audio interface output to Aux In 2.
d.
Room Out to active speakers (or power amp if using passive speakers).
e.
Record out to computer audio interface input 1/2 (stereo).
f.
CAT5 cables connecting each Student Interface to Teacher Unit.
g.
CAT5 cable from one of the network jacks on the Teacher Unit to teacher computer Ethernet input.
h.
Optional: CAT5 cable from internet connection to the other network jack on the Teacher Unit. Only
required for internet connectivity.
i.
Optional: Guitar output to computer audio interface input.
