8.12 Using Auto Ring Binder GP-502
The machine with Auto Ring Binder GP-502 installed punches file holes in output sheets to make a booklet
bound with a bind part through the holes.

8.12.1 Making Booklets Bound with Bind Parts through Punch Holes: Ring Bind
When not using the Insert Sheet function, the same paper is used for all pages to make a bound booklet.
Using the Insert Sheet function in combination, you can use different types of paper for each of the body
sheets, covers, and insert sheets to make a bound booklet.

When using the same paper for all pages to make a bound booklet, select one tray to be used. The
Insert Sheet setting is not required.

When binding a simplex-printed set without using the Insert Sheet function, select the print side ([Inside
Print] or [Outside Print]) for each of the top and last sheets of the booklet.

When using the Insert Sheet function, select a tray for each of the covers and insert sheets.

When printing on covers using the Insert Sheet function, specify the print side for covers in the Insert
Sheet setting. In this case, it is not required to make a selection for the print side of the top sheet and
last sheet of the booklet. Using tabbed paper in the same conditions, the top sheet will be fixed to [Out-
side Print] and the last sheet to [Inside Print].

Select the bind direction ([Left Bind] or [Right Bind]) for the booklet. This selection is effective only for
the portrait original, while the setting is fixed to the top binding for the landscape original.

Available paper weight ranges from 21 to 57 lb Bond.

The maximum number of sheets that can be bound is 102 (21 lb Bond body/insert sheets with 57 lb
Bond covers), and the minimum number is 7 (21 to 31 lb Bond body/insert sheets with 44 to 57 lb Bond
covers).

. The tab extension width of
tabbed paper should be 0.51 inches or less. Any other sizes are unavailable for all of body sheets, cov-
ers, and insert sheets. Tabbed paper cannot be duplex-printed.

Load paper for body sheets in a main body tray or a paper feeder unit tray. When using the Insert Sheet
function, load paper for covers or insert sheets in a main body tray, paper feeder unit tray, or PI-PFU
tray other than that for the body sheets. Paper loaded in a PI-PFU tray cannot be printed.

Make a sample copy to check the pagination of a bound booklet. The sample copy is output, without
being bound, to the secondary tray of a downstream device next to the ring binder.

Prepare the original in the order of the front cover, body, and then the back cover.

Load paper into the tray.

Load paper for body sheets in a main body tray (tray 1, tray 2) or Paper Feeder Unit PF-703 / PF-
706 (trays 3 to 8). When not using the Insert Sheet function, the tray for covers is not required.
