5. Operation
Note:
Before the detector is ready for measurements, a flow cell must
be installed . You can change the optical path length of a preparative flow
cell before assembling the flow cell . The optimal path length depends on
type and quantity of the sample .
5.1 Initial operation
Use this checklist to check if the detector is ready for initial operation:
Device is positioned in the correct location .
The power plug has been connected .
If the device is part of an HPLC system, you should also note the
following:
The network connection to the router is established
The chromatography software has been installed by KNAUER or a
com pany authorized by KNAUER .
The capillaries have been connected .
5.2 Software control
There are several options for controlling the device:
With keypad
With chromatography software
5.2.1 Switching the detector on
The device is switched by the power switch on the back of the device . It
begins by initializing the lamps, then proceeds through a self-test and
calibration cycle, and finally registers itself as ready to operate with the
status
display .
The detector is now ready to operate .
5.2.2 Controlling with display and keypad
The LC display and the keypad are suitable for the following procedures:
Monitoring the device functions
Setting up communication interface
Using special programs for laboratory work:

Setting up analog in- and output (wavelength selection, events, ab-
sorbance signal)

Program sequences, links and (wake up) events
-
Checking the device and lamp status as part of quality assurance
measures in accordance with good laboratory practices (in the
GLP
menu)
