Appendix
B:
Connecting
to
Multiple
E6610As
A single PC can be used to make measurements with multiple E6610A instruments
when using SCPI commands to control the instruments and execute measurements.
It is not possible to control multiple E6610As when using the GUI software, since only
one instance of the E6610A GUI software can be executed at a time and each instance
can only connect to a single E6610A.
Multiple E6610As can be configured either as independent instruments to test
multiple RRHs with up to 2 ports each, or in a master/slave configuration which allows
timing synchronization of the data between the instruments.
Note that IQ data is captured by each E6610A and transferred to the PC for
processing, so the processing power and memory in the PC will be a limiting factor in
the measurement speed.
Controlling Multiple Independent E6610As
Using a Terminal Emulator
Follow the instructions in
Using the SCPI Server
to open a terminal window using the
PuTTY software and connect to one E6610A. Open additional instances of PuTTY and
repeat the steps to connect to additional E6610As. Each terminal window will
communicate with the specific E6610A to which it is connected.
You can also use a single terminal window to connect to and control multiple
E6610As serially. In this case, it is necessary to change the instrument connections by
using the SCPI command CONTrol:INSTrument:DISConnect to disconnect from one
instrument and then initiate a new connection to the next instrument before issuing
commands to the new E6610A.
Using Keysight Connection Expert
Follow the instructions in
Using the SCPI Server
to set up the socket connection to
the E6610A. After selecting the E6610A socket connection, click on "Send Commands
To This Instrument" in the right panel to open a Keysight Interactive IO window to
send commands to an instrument. Click on the link again to open additional Keysight
Interactive IO windows. Use each window to connect to a different E6610A by
specifying the host name or IP address of the desired instrument. All commands sent
in one Keysight Interactive IO window will be sent to the connected E6610A
configured in that window.
