f)
Remove covers from the filter and screw the EN148-1 threaded connection end onto
the chosen respirator. Read the filter use instructions.
g)
Where ever the MD1 emergency device is available: take care to place the filter
inside the MD1 device properly before threading the filter onto the blower unit and
ensure that the extensible concertina is folded up and fastened.
5.2.2 T9R WITH SP9R CORD AND T9 WITH SP9 CORD:
a)
Plug the proper cord into the socket located on the tractor dashboard and connect to
the blower .
b)
Make sure that the blower unit is running properly.
c)
Make sure the filter gasket is properly inserted in the housing.
5.2.3 FILTERS:
a)
Before using the filter for the first time check the expiry date to make sure the filters
have not expired; check that the seals are intact and that the filters are the proper
ones for the respirator model in use. Take care not to confuse the markings on the
filters with those of other standards which classify this RPD according to UNI EN
12941:09.
b)
Remove covers and/or seals and screw the EN148-1 threaded end of the filter onto
the respirator. Read the filter use instructions.
5.2.4 HELMET SET-UP:
a)
Remove protective film from visor. The film was applied to preserve facepiece
transparency till the moment of use.
b)
Fit the helmet steadily on head by adjusting harness/head band fit.
c)
Connect the breathing tube to the helmet (where applicable).
d)
Open the visor if it is the flip-up type.
5.3 DONNING INSTRUCTIONS:
a)
Don helmet in a fresh air environment only.
b)
Fit belt, with blower unit and filters already attached on the left and battery on the
right, around waist.
c)
Put helmet on and tighten collar drawstring around neck by pressing the button. The
drawstring should be pulled as close as possible round neck to ensure maximum
closure but it should at all times feel comfortable and not restrict breathing. Any
garment used to protect the worker’s neck should adhere as much as possible
around the neck in order to avoid possible folds of the fabric which could interfere
with the proper closure.
d)
Connect breathing tube to the blower unit for T8 / T8X / T8X-IS / T9 / T9R .
e)
Close flip-up visor (for K80S - PROF88 – PROF88-LI helmets).
5.4 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE AND CHECKING OF AIRFLOW
INDICATORS:
a)
Check that the exhalation valves are working properly in order to prevent distorted
readings.
b)
Check that the battery is fully charged and that the filters are correctly fitted.
c)
The checking operations hereunder are NOT to be intended as battery capacity
and duration checking operations.
d)
The indicators allows you to check whether the respirator is functioning properly in
an upright position taking filter exhaustion, battery charge level, blower status, leak
tightness and proper collar and flip-up visor( when applicable) closure into account.
Should you need to work in a bent or prone position, return to an upright position
and recheck the airflow if it should decrease .
e)
The indicators are not universal airflow measuring instruments therefore their
readings are valid only for the respirators for which they have been designed and
approved.
5.4.1 BLOWER UNITS WITH AUDIBLE ALARM AIRFLOW INDICATOR
CHECKING INSTRUCTIONS:
a)
Make sure that the indicator is positioned upright.
b)
Start the blower unit . The indicator will emit an audible signal for a few seconds
until the blower motor picks up speed.
c)
N.B: The audible signal will be repeated for a few seconds when the blower is
switched off and the motor unit slows down.
d)
If the audible signal persists troubleshoot by checking whether : the battery is
charged, the filters are blocked/exhausted, the blower unit is supplying the proper
airflow, there are obstacle in the helmet or the breathing tube which are hindering
the flow of air.
5.4.2 SPHERE TYPE AIR FLOW INDICATOR (fitted into the helmet visor)
USE INSTRUCTIONS:
a)
Remove the low flow indicator cap and make sure that the small sphere inside the
indicator can move up and down freely.
b)
With helmet donned and working properly, breathe in and hold your breath for a
few seconds - the small sphere inside the air flow indicator should position itself on
HIGH.
c)
N.B: If the collar is too loose or the visor not closed properly, the small sphere
inside the indicator will remain in the LOW position.
d)
Use the respirator only when the small sphere is on HIGH position or shifts
between HIGH/LOW. This check is to be carried out with the indicator in a vertical
position.
e)
Always carry out an airflow check on the K80S T9R blower if you want to run it off
the built-in battery after unplugging from the tractor dash.

MAINTENANCE
6.1
HELMET:
a)
Clean shell with organic solvent free detergent or with soapy water only.
b)
Clean visor with soapy water.
c)
Wash collar with warm soapy water.
6.2 BLOWER UNITS:
a) The motor does not require servicing.
b) Clean unit with organic solvent free detergents or with a cloth dipped into a 50%
water/ ethyl alcohol solution.
6.3 LITHIUM BATTERIES:
a)
The battery does not require servicing or tipping-up.
b)
RECHARGE IMMEDIALETELY AFTER USE FOR MAXIMUM BATTERY
EFFICIENCY .
c)
DO NOT KEEP THE BATTERIES DISCHARGED. IN CASE OF DEFAULT
CHECK THE VOLTAGE. BATTERIES ARE EQUIPPED WITH A PROTECTION
CIRCUIT THAT CUTS THE POWER OFF IN CASE OF CURRENT
OVERLOAD.
d)
If you plan to store the battery for long periods of time make sure it is at least
50% charged before storage. Do not keep the battery completely discharged for
longer than six months.
6.4 NC220/9 e NM300/8 BATTERIES:
a)
The battery does not require servicing or tipping up.
b)
After a long storage period repeat the charge-discharge cycle 5 times to bring
the battery up to its original capacity.
c)
Store batteries almost completely discharged with the helmet switch OFF.
6.5 FILTERS:
a)
If sealed, the filters remain unaltered until the expiry date shown on them.
b)
Unsealed filters have to be replaced every three months, regardless of the
amount of hours worked. It is advisable to write the date on which the filter was
opened on the filter itself.
c)
Filters cannot be washed, blown out or restored. When exhausted they must be
disposed of.
d)
Replace both filters simultaneously.
e)
The respirator is to be serviced at least once a year by KASCO or Kasco a
authorised service centre.
7. CAUTION
7.1 Do not use the respirator in the conditions listed at point 4.2.
Do not use if for any reason the air flow check has not been carried out (see point
5.4) and /or if the indicator shows a low airflow (see specifications).
For powered respirators with blower units not built into the helmets, fit the filters
directly onto the blower unit and not on the helmet.
7.2 Do not immerse unit in water for cleaning without appropriate caps and covers.
7.3 Do not expose battery to heat sources of over 55°C.
Do not short the terminals.
Do not place battery on or near equipment which vibrates excessively.
In case of battery leakage wash all parts which have come into contact with leaked
liquid immediately.
Do not expose battery to infrared or ultraviolet rays excessively.
Do not pierce, crush, disassemble or open the battery as leaked liquid could catch
fire, explode or release dangerous substances.
Keep the battery charger connected to the battery only if the charger is powered
and switched ON.
The battery charges correctly if charging is carried out at a temperature between
0°C and 40°C. For charging at any other temperature, please contact Kasco.
7.4 Do not use expired filters even if their seals are still intact.
Do not use filters for more than three months.
7.5 Return to fresh, clean air immediately and take OFF helmet if:
a) Leakage is detected by smell, taste or eye, nose or throat irritation.
b) Inhaled air becomes extremely hot.
c) Any feeling of nausea, dizziness or ill being develops.
7.6
THE RESPIRATOR WILL NOT FURNISH BREATHING PROTECTION UNLESS
BLOWER UNITS WHICH DRAW IN AIR THROUGH THE FILTER/S ARE
FUNCTIONING. OXYGEN WILL BE ABSORBED RAPIDLY AND THE CARBON
DIOXYDE CONCENTRATION PRODUCED WITH BREATHING WOULD EXCEED
THE TLV LIMITS.
7.7
Never alter or modify this respirator in any way.
7.8
The airflow indicator gives correct readings when it is used in an upright position and
any reading given at a position dif/- 15° from the upright position is not to be
considered realistic. The indicator is supplied to check the airflow; it is not suitable to
check the capacity or the running time of the battery.
7.9
Replace the helmet if damaged (cracks, bumps etc.) as this could cause inward
leakage.
7.10 This equipment is to be used only by qualified personnel who has been trained on
The use and maintenance of Respiratory Protective Devices and who is aware of
their technical and legal limits.
7.11 Do not use the respirator if your sense of smell is in any way impaired.
7.12 Do not use the respirator if it has not been serviced annually by a Kasco authorized
service centre.
7.13 Use the MD1 emergency device (where supplied) only to leave the contaminated
area.
8. REPAIRS
8.1. Use only genuine KASCO spares.
8.2. Should you require technical assistance please fill out the form on our website and
possibly include the following information : Respirator type – Serial number – Retailer name
– Problem experienced – Voltage type – Hazard type and concentration – Type of filter
used – Frequency of usage– A job description if useful to identifying the problem.
9.
MARKINGS
The CE mark certifies compliance with the essential health and safety
requirements in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The number 0426
after EC identifies the Notified Body ITALCERT control institute of the
finished product in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
