Drive Head - Dismantling (cont’d)

Drain the oil from the drive head. Remove the propshaft.

To remove the drive head it is necessary to withdraw
both drive shafts from the axle.

Remove the drive head carrier screws

. Mark the
installation position of drive head carrier

relative to the
axle housing.

Remove the drive head carrier from the axle housing.

Pull out the roll pins

and remove the castellated nuts

. Remove the outer races of bearings

and

from the
drive head carrier bores.

Remove inner bearing races of

Remove differential assembly

from carrier.

Loosen the differential case half bolts

and pull the
case halves

and
8B
apart. Remove the axle bevel
gears

, the differential bevel gears

, trunnion pin

and thrust washers

from the case halves.

Remove the thrust washers

from both case halves.

Pull off the bearing

Remove the Verbus Ripp bolts

and separate the
crownwheel

from the case half

Remove pinion nut

. Use Service Tool 892/00812 to
prevent drive yoke

from rotating.

Mark the position of the drive yoke on the splined shaft.
Remove the drive yoke.

Drive pinion shaft

out of drive head carrier

Prise shaft seal

out of the bore.

Remove taper roller bearing

and tap out the outer
bearing race.

Tap out the outer race of bearing

from the opposite
bearing housing and remove the drive pinion shim(s)

Remove spacer

from drive pinion

. Prise taper
roller bearing

to raise it sufficiently to insert bearing
pullers. Pull the bearing from the pinion shaft.
