Scanner and LED Operation Test
1. Connect the 1555 to a PC using the appropriate cable:
•
For the Standard model, connect the RS-232 jack on the Stationary Reader
Cable (P/N 3-614032-00) to the serial port on your desktop PC, and connect the
power jack from the external power supply (P/N 070826) to the power
connector on the reader cable.
•
For the PDT model, connect the RS-232 jack on the PDT Reader Cable (P/N
3-634032-11) to the serial port on your desktop PC.
2. Connect power:
•
For the Standard model, plug in the external power supply.
•
For the PDT model, install a charged battery.
3. Pull the trigger. The 1555 turns on.
4. Point the scanner at a blank surface and pull the trigger. Verify that the Power LED
lights when you pull the trigger, and turns off when you release the trigger.
5. Press and hold the Mode button the 1555 until Tag Identify appears in the LCD.
The 1555 is now in RFID mode.
6. Pull the trigger and verify that you can see the aiming beam on the blank surface.
Note: The aiming beam appears as a point of red light. The beam may oscillate
slightly and this is acceptable.
7. Press and hold the Mode button until Barcode Read appears in the LCD. The 1555
is now in Bar Code Reader mode.
8. Pull the trigger to scan the "Far" label on the Scanner Test Card at close range.
Verify that when the scanner reads the bar code, the Read LED lights up for five
seconds, and the bar code data appears in the display.
Note: The scan beam should appear as a wide line of red light.
The 1555 passes the Scanner and LED Operation test if the LEDs turn on and off as
described, and if the scanner and aiming beams appear as described.
If the 1555 passes the Scanner and LED Operation test, continue with the Bar Code
Depth of Field Test. If the 1555 fails the test, there may be a problem with the display,
the scan engine, or the power supply. For help, see Chapter 1, “Troubleshooting the
1555.”
