Valved, Plug Insert or voice prosthesis which could result in
aspiration (inhaling) of the device or voice prosthesis. Should
aspiration occur, attempt to cough the device and/or voice
prosthesis out of the windpipe. Seek medical attention
immediately if unsuccessful.
7. Apply a strip of hypo-allergenic, medical adhesive tape over
the neck strap to prevent strap movement as shown in diagram
10. Warning: Do not detach or in any way modify the neck strap
on the Indwelling Valved/Plug Insert.
The neck strap should
not, under any circumstances, be cut or removed from the
Indwelling Valved/Plug Insert. The neck strap is intended to
help prevent accidental aspiration (inhaling) of the device should
the device become dislodged.
Removal of the Indwelling Valved Insert / Plug Insert
Removal of the Indwelling Valved/Plug Insert should only be
done while using a close-up mirror and a bright light focused
directly into the stoma so that the open end of the prosthesis is
clearly visible. Be certain that your hands are clean.
1. Stabilize the voice prosthesis by holding it carefully and firmly
with tweezers to avoid displacement (diagram 11).
2. Grasp the neck strap of the Indwelling Valved/Plug Insert and
gently pull it out from the voice prosthesis.
Cleaning and Care Instructions
Your clinician will instruct you on the routine use and care of this
Blom-Singer Indwelling accessory device.
The Indwelling accessory device and user’s hands should always
be thoroughly clean to prevent contaminants from entering into
the tracheostoma, puncture, or esophagus.
Always use gentle handling and pressure when cleaning the
Indwelling accessory device to avoid deterioration of the device
and damaging internal components which could cause leakage.
Do not insert foreign objects into the Indwelling voice prosthesis,
Indwelling Valved Insert, or Plug Insert.
Precaution: Never insert any cleaning device while the
Indwelling accessory device is in position in the neck. Always
clean the device after it has been removed.
