The following cable restrictions apply:
Types of Token-Ring Adapter Cables
To connect the IBM Token-Ring Adapter to a token-ring network, you will
need an adapter cable. The network end of the cable must be compatible with
the network faceplate or other device to which the adapter will be connected.
Refer to Figure 4 on page 26.
Note: Only one data cable can be connected to each Token-Ring Adapter.
Types of Ethernet Cables
Use an EIA/TIA standard ethernet cable (ISO/IEC 8802-3) or compatible.
Refer to Figure 5 on page 27.
Types of WAN Cables
Use an EIA Standard RS232 Cable with a 25-pin connector.
Security, Auditability and Control
This product uses the security and auditability features of the AS/400
hardware, software, and application software. You are responsible for
evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative
procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and
communications facilities.
IBM recommends that you configure an administrative ID and password to
prevent unauthorized access to the 5500 Control Unit.
Connection Configurations for the 5500 Control Unit
The IBM 5500 Express IP Controller can be part of your network in a number
of different configurations. Six typical network layouts are shown below.
These examples are just a few of the various ways you can exploit the unique
features and characteristics of the 5500 Control Unit.
