Installing Additional Memory
You can expand system memory by installing industry standard Dual Inline
Memory Modules (DIMMs) on the processor cage system board and on the
memory expansion board.
The maximum memory capacity is as follows:
■
512-MB (Compaq Professional Workstation 6000)
■
3-GB (Compaq Professional Workstation 8000)
Important Guidelines for DIMM Installation
The following guidelines MUST be followed when installing additional memory:
■
Use only 16-MB, 32-MB, 64-MB, 128-MB, or 256-MB buffered EDO
DIMMs, 3.3 volts.
■
DIMMs must be installed in matched pairs, identical in size and speed.
The pairs of DIMMs, however, need not be of the same size. For
example, two 16-MB DIMMs may be installed in slots 1 and 2 on the
system board, and two 32-MB DIMMs in slots 3 and 4 on the system
board.
■
To optimize system performance, fill the DIMM slots in the following
order, bearing in mind that some slots already will be filled:
❏
DIMM slots 1 and 2
❏
DIMM slots 5 and 6 (on the memory expansion board)
❏
DIMM slots 3 and 4
❏
DIMM slots 7 and 8 (on the memory expansion board)
❏
DIMM slots 9 and 10 (on the memory expansion board)
❏
DIMM slots 11 and 12 (on the memory expansion board)
IMPORTANT:
To optimize system performance, fill DIMM slots 5 and 6 on
the memory expansion board
before
filling slots 3 and 4 on the system board.
