Fault Isolation 4-17

Mnemonic Debugger Level
Several diagnostic tools exist at the Mnemonic Debugger (MD) level. In this section,
we discuss how to run the Self Test diagnostics and how to interpret the LED error
codes. We also explain the MD level LED status codes and briefly discuss TSC
diagnostics. We document other MD diagnostic tools in the following manuals:
•
Using Domain Diagnostics, Volume 1
(including
new
MD commands and MD
crash codes)
•
HP 9000 Series 200/300 Computers Test Tools Manual
(more extensive infor-
mation about TSC diagnostics)
•
Domain Hardware Utilities Reference
(invol, salvol, and calendar utilities)
•
HP Apollo 9000 Series 400 Workstation Domain/OS Owner’s Guide
(dumping
memory)
NOTICE:
When executing utilities such as
calendar
,
invol
, and
salvol
,
you must specify the device type, along with the controller
number and unit number. For example, if you intend to run
the
calendar
program, a “device found” message appears on
the screen. When you are prompted to enter the device type
(
w
,
s
,
f
, or other), you
must
include the controller and unit num-
bers specified in the “device found” message along with the
device type, such as
w6:0
(Winchester disk controller 6, unit 0).
4.3.1 Self Test Diagnostics
This section
• Describes the Self Test diagnostics
• Explains how to run them
• Provides a table of the LED error codes that the Self Test diagnostics return
during power-up and forced execution
Self Test Diagnostics Overview
Self Test diagnostics consist of
Test
,
Extended Test
, and
Continuous Test
. The Self Test
code resides in the Boot ROM and in a file named
self_test
in the /SAU directory. We
refer to the part of Self lest that resides in the
self_test
file as
Loadable Tests
.
