4-68 Fault Isolation

Procedure 4-6. Winchester Disk Power Checkout for the Model 400t and 400dl

You need a voltmeter to perform this procedure.

Start this procedure with the system power off and the power cord unplugged.

Remove the system cover.

1. Ensure that the power connector (P2 or P3) is securely attached to the

Winchester disk drive.

2. Plug in the system unit’s power cord and power on the system.

A. If the fan does not start to spin, go to Procedure 4-5.

B. If the fan starts spinning, and the system unit’s green Power LED is on, go

to Step 3 in this procedure.

3. Use the voltmeter to test the voltages at the power supply input connector to the

Winchester drive. Unplug P2 or Pi to check the voltages. Figure 4-19 shows the

connector voltages.

4. If the voltages are not within specifications, see Table 4-17 and perform the

power supply checkout in Procedure 4-5.

5. If the power supply checks out within specifications and the problem persists,

check the jumper configurations for the disk drive (refer to Appendix A for the

disk jumper configurations).
