DIO-II Backplane
This 3-slot DIO-II backplane is part of the DIO-II motherboard. It supports 32-bit
DIO-II accessory boards.

Graphics Controller Boards
Graphics controller boards allow the system unit to send bit-mapped display informa-
tion to medium or high resolution monitors. A variety of monochrome and color video
boards are available for Series 400 systems. The color boards provide up to 8-plane
color display capability.
Graphics interface boards connect to display processors that are external to the system
through a local graphics bus. Graphics processors are used for applications requiring
an extensive graphics capability.
Supported video/graphics boards include
• VRX Color Video Board (HP A1416A). This version displays 1280 by 1024
individual pixels and drives the high-resolution color monitors. It provides 8
image planes and 2 overlay planes.
• GAD Bus Interface Board (HP 98702A). This interface board drives one of the
following graphics processors:
– HP 98705A Graphics Processor, providing 8 color planes and 4 overlay
planes.
– HP 98705B Graphics Processor, providing 16 color planes, 4 overlay
planes, and 16-bit Z planes.
– HP 98705C Graphics Processor, providing 8 color planes and 4 overlay
planes. This processor has a slower graphics engine than the HP 98705A
processor.
• PDMA Graphics Interface Board (98735-6658). This board drives one of the
following display controllers to provide 24 image planes, 24-bit Z planes, 4
overlay planes, 4 window planes, and 4 display mode planes:
– HP 98735A Single Engine Graphics Processor
– HP 98736A VDMA Dual Engine Graphics Processor
– HP 98736B VDMA 3-Stage Engine Graphics Processor
