5-52 FRU Removal and Replacement

5.5.20

CPU Board Removal and Replacement (Model 400s)

Refer to Figure 5-38 and follow these steps to remove the CPU board. Reverse these

steps to replace the CPU board.

1. Remove the top and side covers. Disconnect all cables connected to the CPU

board connectors.

2. If you have already removed the HP-IB (or blank) plate to access the converter

board, skip this step.

Remove the HP-IB (or blank) plate’s two right side screws, two top screws, and

the one bottom screw. Do not remove the two left side screws holding the plate to

the CPU board’s backplate.

3. Remove the four screws on the chassis’ left side holding the CPU board’s back-

plate to the chassis.

4. Remove the two screws (top and bottom) on the CPU board backplate holding it

to the chassis.

5. Insert a flat-tipped screwdriver through the rear one of the two, large chassis

holes on the left side (near the LAN connectors) and put its tip in the CPU board’s

removal slot. The front hole is used to lever the CPU board into its connectors.

6. Pry the CPU board free from its motherboard connectors, then remove the flat-

tipped screwdriver.

NOTICE:

Apply mild pressure to unseat the CPU board. If

it does not unseat easily, check to see that all the

screws are removed.

7. Remove the CPU board.

NOTICE:

If the CPU board is being replaced, the EEPROM

should be removed from the CPU board being re-

placed and installed in the new CPU board. This

keeps the Boot Mode Selection, Auto System Se-

lect, and Internal I/O Configuration information

intact and does not have to be reconfigured. Sys-

tem Unit identification is maintained for operating

system and application requirements. The

EEPROM from the new CPU board should be in-

stalled on the failed CPU board.
