Configuring the EEPROM C-7

Note the line in the menu that reads:

Type R RETURN for internal RS-232 console

That means to type the command

R < Return >

To change the internal RS-232 interface to Remote so that you can use the terminal as

the system console. Note that sometimes (depending on when you type the command)

that some of the display does not appear.

C.3

Using Configuration Control Mode

Before you use Configuration Control Mode, ensure that your system console interface

has been properly configured. Refer to the ‘System Console and System Unit Configu-

rations’ section earlier in this appendix for that procedure.

New System Unit First Turn-On

Your system unit’s Boot Mode determines whether it runs Domain compatible or HP-

UX compatible operating systems. New system units display their Boot Mode selection

in following two ways:

• A special LED pattern appears a few seconds after the system unit gets pow-

ered up. The pattern appears after the power up display has completed on the

left side of the screen and before the Configuration Control menu appears.

• The power-up display has a Configuration Control menu that may be accessed

to find out what the Boot Mode selection is. You can change the selection if

necessary.

Boot Mode LED Patterns

When you first power-up your system unit, the middle eight front panel LEDs all turn

on, then off. After the left side of the power-up display appears, the fourth yellow

LED down, (to the right if the LED display is horizontal), blinks at a high rate for

about three seconds. During the time the fourth LED blinks, the top (or left,) two yel-

low LEDs light to indicate the current Boot Mode selection. Table C-3 lists these LED

patterns.
