High Altitude Adjustment

When the ve h icle is to be operated conti n uou sly a bove
2,000 m (6,500 feet), the carbu retors must be readjusted as
fo l l ows to i m p rove d rivea b i l ity a n d decrease ex h a u st
em ission.
Warm u p the engine to operati ng temperatu re. Stop and
go riding for ten m i n utes is sufficient.
Turn each pilot screw clockwise 1/2 turn.
High Altitude Adjustment: 1 /2 turn in

1 00 rpm) with the th rottle stop screw knob.
NOTE
•
This adj ustment m u st be made at h i g h altitude to
ensure proper high altitude operation.
Attach a Veh icle E m ission Control I nformation La be l on
the right down tube as shown i n the label position i l l ustra­
tion.
NOTE
•
Do not attach the label to any part that ca n be easily
removed from the veh icle.
•
Sustained operation at an altitude lower than 1 ,500
m (5,000 feet) with the carburetor adjusted for high
altitude may cause the engine to idle roughly and
the engine may stall in traffic. If may also cause
engine damage due to overheating.
When the veh icle is to be ope rated conti n uously below
1 ,500 m (5,000 feet), turn each pilot screw cou nterclock­
wise 1/2 turn to its ori g i n a l position and adjust the idle
speed to 1 ,000

1 00 rpm (California: 1 , 1 00
±
1 00 rpm ).
Be sure to make these adjustment at low altitude.
Remove the Veh icle Emission Control U pdate Label that is
attached to the right down tube after adjusti ng for low a lti­
tude.
