Before Using the Water Heater
Prior to using the water heater, purge all trapped air from the water system. To purge the air and pressurize the
system, fill the fresh water tank using the on board water pump or hooking up to city water. Check the tank for
water leaks. Once the system is pressurized, turn the hot and cold valves on for each water faucet, one at a time,
inside and outside of the recreational vehicle. Run each faucet until a steady stream of water with no air bubbles
or air pockets are present. The water heater does not need to be operating while in this process. Locate the water
heater bypass system valves; select the
“NORMAL USE”
positions. At the back of the water heater ensure that
the water heater is plugged into the 120 Volt AC outlet.
Water Heater Compartment
Periodically check the service compartment and screen in the door on the outside
of the recreational vehicle to ensure no foreign material has accumulated which will
prevent the flow of combustion and ventilating air.
Water Heater Bypass System
Plumbed into the water heater lines is a bypass system. By turning the
valves to the BYPASS position, water is diverted away from the tank. The
water heater should be in the BYPASS position when winterizing. To keep
antifreeze out of the system. For normal water heater operation, turn the valves
to point in the NORMAL USE position.
Pressure - Temperature Relief Valve
The water heater is equipped with a Pressure-Temperature relief valve, that may
discharge during the heating cycle, due to thermal expansion of water. The Pressure-
Temperature relief valve is designed to open when the water temperature within the
heater reaches 210° F (98.8° C), or when pressure reaches 150 psi. Because the unit
utilizes a closed system, discharge is a normal occurrence and is not necessarily a
faulty valve. The water heater has an internal air pocket to reduce the possibility
of dripping or weeping. Eventually, the expansion of the water will absorb the air
pocket. When this occurs, utilize the following procedure to replace the air.
