Savoy SL & LX 5th Wheel & Travel Trailer
∙ Remove the wheel and tire.
∙ Follow the procedures under
“WHEEL MOUNTING”
to mount the replacement tire.
∙ Lower jack and stow the jack, wood plank and wrenches.
WARNING:
Never allow anyone to go under the axle and trailer while it is being lifted by the jack. Sever
injury or death can occur.
wheel mounting
The recreational vehicle comes with heavy-duty wheels. When buying additional wheels get the same type as
those installed on the recreational vehicle. Check the wheel lug bolts before every trip. Tighten the lug bolts to 90
to 120 ft. lbs.
1. After dismounting old wheel, remove all debris from stud threads. Do not lubricate threads.
2. Position wheel on recreational vehicle.
Inspect
to insure full contact between the mounting surface (seat
pads) of wheel and mounting surface of hub and brake drum.
3. Start wheel nuts on stud.
4. Finger tighten top nut. Rotate wheel so that the number two nut is at top. Finger tighten remaining nuts
in numerical (crisscross) order; always tighten nuts in top position.
5. Repeat Step 4, rotating wheel and finger tightening nuts until all nuts are snug.
6. Use a torque wrench to tighten nuts as described under “wheel torque requirement.”
7. After wheels (with tires) have been mounted, visually inspect them to ensure no interference with body
or other component parts. Be sure to inspect wheels in all possible positions (extreme turn, etc.).
8. Only specially trained technicians using proper equipment should mount or dismount pneumatic tires.
Serious or fatal injuries can result from improper mounting.
NOTE:
Check the fit of the lug wrench. An oversized wrench results in mutilated lug nuts.
WARNING:
Maintain proper torque on lug nuts or wheel bolts. Failure to do so may result in serious
injury or property damage. Never allow anyone to go under the axle and trailer while it is
being lifted by the jack. Severe injury or death can occur.
Wheel Torque Requirements:
It is extremely important to apply and maintain proper wheel mounting torque on the recreational vehicle axle.
NOTE:
Wheel nuts or bolts must be applied and maintained at proper torque levels to prevent loose
wheels, broken studs and possible dangerous separation of wheels from the axle.
Be sure to use only the fastener matched to the cone angle of the wheel (usually 60º or 90º). The proper
procedure for attaching the wheels is as follows:
• Tightening of the fastener should be done in stages.
• Following the recommended sequence, tighten fastener per wheel torque chart.
• Wheel nuts/bolts should be torqued before first road use and after each wheel removal. Check and torque
after the first 10, 25 and 50 miles. Continue to check periodically.
