To engage

button on the front of the shift lever.
Manual mode: Move the shift lever
to position
D
, then push to the left.

Parking

Always apply the parking brake
firmly without pressing the
release button. Apply as firmly
as possible on a downhill slope
or uphill gradient. Apply foot
brake before applying the
parking brake to reduce
operating force.

Switch off the engine and
ignition. Turn the ignition key to
LOCK
(0), remove it and turn the
steering wheel until the steering
wheel lock is felt to engage.
For vehicles with automatic
transmission, move the shift
lever to
P
position and remove
the key.

If the vehicle is on a level
surface or uphill gradient,
engage first gear or set the shift
lever to
P
before switching off
the ignition. On an uphill
gradient, turn the front wheels
away from the curb.
If the vehicle is on a downhill
slope, engage reverse gear or
set the selector lever to
P
before
switching off the ignition. Turn
the front wheels towards
the curb.

Close the windows.

Lock the vehicle.

Activate the anti-theft alarm
system, if available, see

For vehicles with a diesel
engine, after running at high
engine speeds or with high
engine loads, operate the engine
briefly at a low load or run in
neutral for about 1 to 2 minutes
at idle speed before switching off
in order to protect the
turbocharger.

For vehicles with a diesel
engine, before switching off, do
not accelerate.

Warning
Do not park the vehicle on a
flammable surface. The high
temperature of the exhaust
system could ignite the surface.
