Blade Selection
Selecting the right blade requires a knowledge
of the various blade characteristics to match the
blade with the particular cutting operation.
Blade Terminology
Figure 68. Bandsaw blade components.
A. Kerf: The amount of material removed by the
blade during cutting.
B. Tooth Set: The amount each tooth is bent
left or right along the blade.
C. Gauge: The thickness of the blade.
D. Blade Width: The widest point of the blade
measured from the tip of the tooth to the back
edge of the blade.

a line perpendicular to the length of the blade.

to the bottom of the curved area (gullet).
G. Tooth Pitch: The distance between tooth

Setting Upper Blade
Guide Height
When cutting, the blade guides must always be
positioned so they just clear (no more than
1
⁄
4
")
the workpiece. The guide post, shown in
Figure
67, allows the upper blade guide assembly to be
quickly adjusted for height.
To adjust height of upper blade guides:
1. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER!
2. Loosen guide post lock knob (see Figure 67).
3. Use guide post elevation handwheel to adjust
height of guide post so that blade guide
assembly just clears (no more than
1
⁄
4
")
workpiece.
4. Retighten lock knob to secure setting.
