contact with the power terminals: short-circuit hazard! If necessary - if you anticipate prolonged part-
load operation - solder a power capacitor plate to the speed controller cables.
IMPORTANT:
it is abso-
lutely essential to maintain correct polarity; see the instructions supplied with the capacitor plate. Finally
insulate the speed controller with a heat-shrink
sleeve. When you shrink the sleeve, ensure that
the water-cooling unit does not shift, as it could
then contact the connecting leads.
NOTE:
if you
wish, you can stick the label (previously removed)
on the water-cooling unit again, to remind you at a
later date which controller you are using.
•
Attach the speed controller to the hull close to the
motor using Velcro (hook-and-loop) tape, then
connect the controller to the motor.
NOTE:
if you
subsequently discover that the motor rotates in
the wrong direction, simply swap over any two of
the plugs between controller and motor; this ac-
tion reverses the direction of rotation of the motor.
It makes no difference which two, but it is
essen-
tial
to disconnect the power supply beforehand!
•
The next step is to connect the hoses for the water-cooling system. This is the best sequence: 1. rudder
blade to aluminium tube in the hull; 2. aluminium tube to motor; 3. motor to speed controller; 4. speed
controller to outlet tube.
IMPORTANT:
check carefully that the whole water-cooling system is absolutely
watertight, otherwise the model will steadily fill with water when it is running.
•
Connect the Y-lead for the drive batteries to the speed controller’s connecting leads.
•
Fix the receiver in place with Velcro tape, but not too close to the motor and speed controller.
•
Attach a piece of Velcro tape about 10 cm long to each of the two drive batteries, and stick the batteries
in the sponsons; the approximate position is shown in the photo.
NOTE:
using Velcro tape to secure the
batteries makes it possible to adjust the boat’s Centre of Gravity by re-positioning the batteries slightly.
•
Use adhesive tape to fix the receiving system cables in place to prevent them shifting.
