The silencer, header and connecting hose can now be attached to the engine as
shown in the photo.
To secure the silencer to the header, fit two pan-head self-tapping screws from the
front as shown in the photo. The silencer exhaust pipe should be cut down so that
the end projects out of the bottom of the cowl by about 10 mm. For the throttle
linkage we recommend fitting a ball-end bolt, Order No. 1178, and a ball-link, Order
No. 3499.20; alternatively you can just form a double-bend in the pushrod to connect
it to the throttle arm. At the servo output arm the throttle pushrod should be
connected using a swivel connector. The swivel connector should be mounted on the
servo output arm in such a way that it rotates smoothly, but without noticeable lost
motion. The ignition unit can be attached to the right-hand side of the nose bulkhead
using cable ties. Connect the sparkplug cap etc. as described in the operating
instructions supplied with the petrol engine.
Once again, remember to apply a drop of UHU thread-lock fluid to all the retaining
screws to prevent them working loose.
You may need to cut openings in the cowl to clear the silencer outlet pipe, the
sparkplug cap etc.; this varies according to the power plant you have installed. Finish
off any openings neatly using a fine file. The cowl should be attached to the fuselage
in such a way that there is about 5 mm clearance between the spinner backplate and
the front face of the cowl. Fix the cowl to the fuselage using four pan-head self-
tapping screws, as shown in the photos.
Installing the nosewheel retract unit
The retractable nosewheel unit is mounted in the fuselage on a pair of aluminium
angle brackets which are screwed to either side of the wheel well, as described for
the main retract units in the wings.
Mark the position of the mounting holes in the retract unit flanges on the aluminium
brackets, and drill the holes to suit the retaining screws.
Connect the air lines to the retract unit, and fix the unit to the aluminium brackets.
Mount the nosewheel steering servo in the appropriate opening, as shown in the
photos.
The nosewheel steering linkage is made up using steel pull-cables, as described for
the rudder. Attach the cables to the ring-screws as described earlier.
Connect the two clevises to the double-sided servo output arm; the lever length
should be about 15 mm. Route the steel cables through the cross-holes in the
noseleg lever. Set the steering servo and nosewheel to centre, then tighten the two
grubscrews to secure the cables.
Fit the nosewheel in the yoke using the wheel axle and three collets as shown; the
yoke is fixed in place using an M8 nut. Secure all the retaining screws with a drop of
thread-lock fluid.
