Checklist for the High-Voltage Test
Protective Measures for Personnel
➭
Switch the machine off and secure against switching back on.
➭
Perform protective conductor and insulation resistance tests.
➭
Make sure that the system is grounded.
➭
Secure the danger zone with barriers. Even narrow points of
access must be blocked.
➭
Post warning signs in a clearly visible fashion.
➭
Set up warning lamps in a clearly visible fashion.
➭
Attach the emergency stop switch in a clearly visible fashion.
➭
Warn personnel working in the area of possible danger.
➭
If the operator leaves the work area, the test instrument must
be switched off with the key switch, and the key must be
removed from the lock.
Protective Measures for the Machine (recommended)
➭
Review the electrical diagram and make a note of all electrical
circuits.
➭
Disconnect the neutral conductor from the mains.
➭
Short circuit all electrical circuits to themselves.
➭
Disconnect surge diverters from control current circuits, if
these would be triggered by test voltage.
➭
Disconnect PELV circuits (high-voltage testing is not required
here).
➭
Test insulation at all circuits with 1000 V. (If insulation resis-
tance is OK with 1000 V, the high-voltage test should be
successful as well).
➭
Disconnect the converter.
➭
Attention in TN systems!
In these systems, the protective conductor is connected with
the neutral conductor in the terminal box. High-voltage is
therefore present between the phase conductors and the neu-
tral conductor.
If necessary, the neutral conductor must be separated as it is
not disconnected from the mains by any fuse.
Set Up the Test Instrument
See chapter 8,
“Setting Ranges for Parameters and Standard Val-
ues per DIN VDE”
.
High-Voltage Test
➭
Test all circuits (conductors) against the protective conductor
(all switches within the system circuit must be switched on,
and testing must be performed upstream and downstream
from relays).
➭
Remove all short-circuiting after the test.
Performing the Test without Short-Circuiting
➭
Test all conductors from all circuits separately against the
protective conductor (if flashover occurs, the machine may be
damaged).
Functions Test
➭
The machine must be tested for correct functioning, especially
as regards safety functions, after high-voltage testing.
