Sensitive tissues
Particular care should be taken to reduce the risk of thermal
hazard when exposing the following to diagnostic ultrasound:
- an embryo less than eight weeks after conception;
- the head, brain or spine of any fetus or neonate;
- an eye (in a subject of any age).
The British Medical Ultrasound Society has suggested some
maximum scanning times relative to displayed TI as follows:
