2) BREAKOUT POLLING
Description: (SB software does not use Breakout Polling in the UPAP process. Rev. “SC” does).
Breakout polling is a software method to resynchronize the RS232 communications port (6809) to the HIB.
An out-of-sync condition is rare but can occur if the AP was shut down abnormally. An example is a
“CNTL A” during the UPAP serial transfer section of deadstarts. When out-of-sync, the 6809 communications
processor is still looking for more data on the link - it takes any serial transfer and places it into public
memory as if it were a continuation of the data string - it cannot distinguish between commands or data. This
mode will continue until the internal byte counter is satisfied and the data transfer is complete.
Error conditions:
More than 1 BREAKOUT POLLING sequence signifies a problem. RAP’s in WTERM will also fail, and failure
points are the same. Here is a sample error message:

The failure points are:
a) Cable break
b) Loss of
±
12 volts at drivers in AP - IOC or DG - HIB
c ) Loss of + 5v at AP
d) Wrong baud rate settings on IOC card (DIP switch)
e) Wrong baud rate setting or device select on HIB (DIP switches)
f)
Bad RS232 driver / receiver IC’s on IOC or HIB
g) Failure of HIB or IOC
3) HARDWARE RESET (1st)
Description:
The first section of deadstart reset contains two parts. The first is a simple RESET that contains the same
primitive serial transfer protocol as a RAP command from WTERM. The second part is a serial transfer that
contains data. This transfer requires the use of the MASTER card, public memory, and the public memory
bus. The contents of this secondary transfer is what kicks off the MASTER and SLAVE diagnostics (that
reside in the AP PROM) to continue the deadstart.
