7 Illegal Sector A sector address that was too large ws transferred between the controller
and adapter. Most likely causes:
•
DISK CONTROLLER Board
•
ADAPTER 2 Board
•
Cabling between the Adapter and CPU Backplane
8 ECC Error An ECC error was detected on the data read from the disk pack. Occasional
ECC errors are usually caused by bad sectors on the disk pack and when
running diagnostics should be ignored. Persistent ECC errors may be
caused by:
•
DIRTY HEAD or DEFECTIVE HEAD (Check for most of the errors coming
from 1 HEAD
•
HEAD ANALOG Board
•
SERVO CLOCK Board
•
ADAPTER 2 Board
•
DISK CONTROLLER Board (slim possibility)
9 Bad Sector Flag This bit should never be set. If it is, reformat the disk pack using the QUICK
FORMAT option of ZDKP RELI. If the bad sector flags persists, there is a read
problem. May be caused by:
•
Bad disk pack
•
Bad HEAD - Check for all Bad sector flags coming from a single HEAD
•
HEAD ANALOG Board
•
SERVO CLOCK Board
•
ADAPTER 2 Board
•
Bad cable between Adapter and Disk Drive
10 Cylinder Adress
Error was
detected during
a header check The cylinder address read from the sector was incorrect.
If this error is NOT accompanied by seek errors check the following:
Are the DRIVE LOGIC Board cylinder LED’s indicating the correct cylinder?
If not possible problems are:
•
ADAPTER 1 Board
•
DRIVE LOGIC Board
•
Cable between Adapter and Disk Drive
If OK or you don’t know, possible problems are:
•
ADAPTER 1 Board
•
APATER 2 Board
•
DRIVE LOGIC Board
•
HEAD ANALOG Board
•
SERVO CLOCK Board
•
Cable between Adapter and Disk Drive
•
Cable between ADAPTER 1 and ADAPTER 2 Boards
•
Bad HEAD
•
Bad Disk pack
If this error is accompanied by seek errors, troubleshoot the seek errors first.
