Should the engine fail to start it is necessary to make another attempt re
peating the above procedures. Allow not less than 1 minute before the second
attempt. After the third unsuccessful attempt, find and eliminate the trouble.
After the engine starting and pressure appearing in engine oil system red
warning lamp goes out and you may start driving the vehicle.
Start the engine from cold with 15W40 oil at the ambient air tempera
ture not lower than –15°C, with 10W40 oil – not lower than –20°C, with
5W40 and 5W50 oils – not lower than –25°C.
Engine starting at lower temperatures should be performed after warming
it up by starting preheater only (mounted on some vehicle versions).
Start warm and hot engine
in the following sequence:
1. Turn on the storage batteries switch (for buses).
2. Move the gearshift lever into the neutral position.
3. Start the engine by switching on the starter (without delaying the key
in position I).
Engine stopping
. If the engine has been operated in heavy duty cycle its
instantaneous shutdown is not allowed. Let it run for 2–3 minutes at idle speed.
To stop the engine, turn the engine starter key to position 0.

Engine starting is carried out at the ambient air temperature:
— up to +3°
C without starting assisting devices
— up to –25° C with thermostarter
— up to –45° C after engine warming up by means of starting preheater
