The Simple Solution to the Problem
No crema
The coffee is not pressed firm-
ly enough.
Tamp the ground espresso more firmly in the filter;
see: ›Useful Tips‹.
The espresso grind is too
coarse.
Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Ground cof-
fee is marked accordingly.
The ground coffee is no longer
fresh.
Keep ground coffee no longer than 1 week in an air-
tight vessel.
The filter pores are clogged.
Clean the filter. You can clear the pores of the filter
with the cleaning tool; see ›Care and Cleaning‹.
The appliance makes
pulsating, pumping
noises during brewing
or when frothing the
milk.
These are the normal opera-
ting noise of the appliance.

The appliance does
not generate steam.
The appliance is not turned on. Make sure that the appliance is plugged in and turned
on (power indicator is illuminated).
The water tank is empty.
Fill fresh cold water into the water tank.
The steam position has not yet
been selected.
Turn the steam control switch to the steam position;
The steam wand is clogged.
Allow the steam wand to cool, remove the attachment
and try to open the steam wand with the cleaning tool.
Remove the steam wand and clean the steam wand
according to the instructions in the section ›Care and
Cleaning‹.
The milk does not
froth up.
The appliance does not deve-
lop enough steam.
The steam wand may be clogged. See: ›Care and Clea-
ning‹.
The milk is not fresh or not
cold enough.
The milk must be fresh and cold. See: ›Frothing milk‹.
STORAGE
Always turn the appliance off (power button), remove the power cord from the outlet
and clean the appliance and all parts and tools if you do not want to use the appli-
ance for a long time (see: ›Care and Cleaning‹).
Empty the water tank and drip tray.
Make sure that the appliance has cooled down, is clean and dry. Stow all accesso-
ries with the appliance.
Store the appliance standing upwards. Place no other objects on the appliance.
