Replacing the chassis ID board
This board includes two important system components:
–
EEPROM for the chassis ID and ident number of the server
–
temperature sensor for monitoring the environment temperature
The data for the EEPROM, and the current temperature values as well, are
transmitted to the system board via the connected I
2
C bus.
The chassis ID board must be correctly installed in order:
–
to monitor the temperature correctly,
–
to enable the server management to display the correct system picture,
–
to install the server using ServerStart.
The chassis ID board is mounted between the hard disk cage and the acces-
sible drives.

Open the server as described in the
section “Preparation” on page 17
.

Remove the green cable clamp from the connector of the I
2
C cable.
Ê
Remove the I
2
C cable from the connector on the chassis ID board.
Ê
Remove the screw and take out the chassis ID board.
Ê
Insert the new chassis ID board and fasten it with one screw.
Ê
Plug the I
2
C cable on the connector on the chassis ID board.
Ê
Plug the green cable clamp on the connector of the I
2
C cable.
