As Network Printer
Windows network (SMB)
Server Message Block (SMB) is a protocol for sharing file or printer on Windows
95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows
XP. Using SMB, print data or settings can be sent directly to a printer on the
same network (Ethernet interface) without going through a server.
You can begin printing by activating the SMB port, and then registering the
printer on the network on each of the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me,
Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating system (OS).
Depending on the network environment, you may need to set up IP address,
subnet mask and gateway address for the printer. Consult your network adminis-
trator for details on setting the needed item.
“2.1 Windows Network (SMB)” (P. 26) for details on the settings.
