Functional Description
The PS-500 locates and holds drill strings with a total
weight of up to 500 short ton. It operates hydraulically
and with the HCGS option, the pipe can hydraulically be
centered. The hydraulic signal “Slips set” appears, after the
Slips have been set. After lifting the Slips and reaching the
end position, the hydraulic signal “Slips lifted” appears.

Functional hydraulic system description
Set slips
Pressure at port “A” initiates the Slip Assembly
move downwards (hydraulic cylinders engage)
so that the pipe string is held by the PS-500.
Raise slips
Pressure at port “B” initiates the Slip Assembly
move upwards (hydraulic cylinders engage) so
that the pipe string is no longer held by the
PS-500, but completely by the Elevator. A load
retention valve prevents the Slip Assembly of
sagging.
Feedback
Pressure at port B and C represent the
Feedback signal, which indicates “Slip
Assembly is raised /Slips open” while pressure
at port A and C represent the Feedback signal
“Slip Assembly is Lowered /Slips set”.

Operational Environment
The PS-500 is designed and constructed for use in the
drilling industry on ships and platforms. The Equipment
complies with the Machinery Directive 2006 / 42 / EC. The
equipment is approved for operation in explosion hazard
areas. For equipment containing any hydraulic powered
parts, the directive 2014 / 34 / EU “Equipment and
protective systems in potentially explosive atmospheres”
applies.
The corresponding ATEX certificates are present in the
Data book.
The Classification in accordance with CE (with reference to
the ATEX guideline) is as followed:
