REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Engine

Removal

1 . Drain engine cooling system. Refer to Section

03-03.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable (1430 1). Refer

to Section 14-0 1 .

3. Disconnect underhood lamp wiring connector.

4. Mark position of hood hinge ( 16796) and remove

hood (1 66 12).

5. Disconnect generator-to-voltage regulator wiring

assembly.

Remove radiator upper sight shield (8C29 1).

7. R�lease drive belt tensioner (68209) and remove

dnve belt (8620) as described in Section 03-05.

8. Remove air cleaner outlet tube (9865

). Refer to

Section 03-12.

Disconnect cooling fan motor wiring.

10. Disconnect constant control relay module at

wiring connector and remove radiator coolant

recovery reservoir (8A080). Refer to Section

03-03.

1 1 . Remove cooling fan motor, fan blade (8600) and

fan shroud (8 146) assembly. Refer to Section

03-03.

12. Remove upper radiator hose (8260).

13. Disconnect transmission oil cooler inlet and outlet

tubes.

14. Disconnect heater inlet and heater return tube

hoses.

15. Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) at water

pump (850 1).

16. Remove radiator retaining bolts and radiator

(8005). Refer to Section 03-03.

17. Disconnect power steering pressure hose

(3A7 19).

18. Remove power steering pump (3A67 4) and

power steering pump bracket and move aside.

19. Di�connect power steering pressure switch (PSP

sw•tch)(3N824) at wiring connector.

20. Disconnect A I C clutch (2884) from fuel charging

wiring (9D930).

2 1 . Recover A I C system. Refer to Section 1 2-QO.

22. Disco�nect AIC compressor lines. Cap or plug

open lines.

23. Remove AIC compressor retaining bolts and

remove A I C compressor ( 1 9703).

24. Remove wiring shield.
25. Disconnect accelerator cable (9A758) and speed

control actuator cable (9A825) from throttle body

(9E926).

26. Remove accelerator cable bracket (9723) and

move aside with cables.

27. Release fuel system pressure and disconnect fuel

supply hose as described in Section 10-0 1 .

28. Disconnect fuel return hose as described in

Section 1

29. Disconnect fuel charging wiring from engine

control sensor wiring ( 1 2A58 1) at 4Q-pin

connector.

30. Disconnect main vacuum source hose.

Disconnect evaporative emission hose.
Remove A I C compressor mounting bracket

(2882) with drive belt tensioner attached.
Raise vehicle on hoist. Refer to Section oo-o2.
Position drain pan beneath engine oil pan (6675).
Drain engine oil.
Remove oil bypass filter (67 14)

FRONT OF ENGINE

FILTER INSTALLATION

37. Move drain pan away from vehicle.

38. Disconnect heated oxygen sensors

(H02S)(9F472).

39. Remove dual converter

pipe (5F250). Refer to

Section 09-QO.

40. Remove inspection plug from engine rear plate

(7007) and remove torque converter bolts.

4 1 . Remove engine-to-transmission bolts.

42. Remove transmission oil cooler line retainers from

RH front engine support insulator (6038).

43. Remove through bolts retaining front engine

support insulator to front sub-frame (5C1 45).

44. Remove starter motor ( 1 1002). Refer to Section

03-Q6.

45. Remove ground cable. Remove starter motor

wire harness retainers (LH and RH sides).
