Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor 

CAUTION: The mass air flow sensor hot wire 

sensing element and housing are calibrated as a 

unH and must be serviced as a complete 

assembly. Do not damage the sensing element 

(Internal to housing) or possible failure of the 

mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor)( 1 28579) may 

occur.

1 .   Disconnect battery ground cable (1430 1). Refer 

to Section  14-Q 1 .  

2.  Disconnect engine control sensor wiring 

( 12A581) from mass air flow sensor and intake 

air temperature sensor (JAT sensor)( 1 2A697). 

3.  Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamps (9C632) 

on air cleaner outlet tube (98659) and air cleaner 

cover. 

4.  Disconnect air cleaner outlet tube from mass air 

flow sensor. 

5.  Remove air cleaner cover and remove retaining 

bolts from mass air flow sensor. Remove mass 

air flow sensor from air cleaner cover. 

Installation 

1 .   Follow removal procedure in reverse order. 

2.  Tighten retaining bolts for mass air flow sensor to 

the air cleaner cover to 5-7 N-m (45-6 1 1b-in). 

3.  Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamps to 2.3-3.2 

N·m (2 1-28 lb-in). 

Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 

Removal 

1 .   Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer 

to Section  14-Q 1 .  

2.  Disconnect engine control sensor wiring 

( 1 2A581) from intake air temperature sensor (JAT 

sensor)( 1 2A697). 

3.  Turn intake air temperature sensor 90 degrees 

counterclockwise and remove intake air 

temperature sensor from air cleaner cover. 

4.  Inspect intake air temperature sensor (JAT 

sensor)O-ring for damage or deterioration and 

replace as necessary. 

Installation 

1 .   Follow removal procedure in reverse order. 

Idle Air Control (lAC) Valve 

Removal 

1 .   Disconnect battery ground cable ( 1 4301 ). Refer 

to Section  14-0 1 .  

2.  Disconnect the fuel charging wiring (9D930) from 

the idle air control valve (lAC valveX9F7 1 5). 

3.  Remove the two idle air control valve retaining 

bolts. 

4.  Remove the idle air control valve and idle air 

control valve gasket. 

Installation 

1 .   NOTE: 

If 

scraping is necessary, do not damage 

the idle air control valve gasket surfaces or drop 

gasket material into throttle body (9E926) or 

throttle body adapter (depending upon 

application). 
Clean idle air control valve gasket mating 

surfaces.
