Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor 

Removal 

1 .  

Partially drain engine cooling system. Refer to 

Section 03-03. 

2.  Disconnect battery ground cable (1430 1). Refer 

to Section  14-Q 1 .  

3.  Disconnect fuel charging wiring (9D930) from 

engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT 

sensor X 1 2A648). 

4.  On 3.8L engine, remove engine coolant 

temperature sensor from hot water heater elbow 

connection ( 18599). On 4.6L engine, remove 

engine coolant temperature sensor from heater 

tube located on lower intake manifold (9424). 

Installation 

1 .   Follow removal procedure in reverse order. 

2.  On 3.8L engine, tighten engine coolant 

temperature sensor to  14-19 N·m (1Q-14 1b-ft). 

On 4.6L engine, tighten engine coolant 

temperature sensor to  16-24 N·m ( 1 2-17 lb-ft). 

3.  Refill engine cooling system. Refer to Section 

03-Q3.
