ELECTING “MELT” OR “THAW” OPTIONS
Select either the abbreviated “Melt” cycle which stops the process for an
Ice Free
liquid
or “slushy consistency”
product at a product temperature of no more than 15
˚C, or select “Thaw” with a stopping point of 31˚
C for a totally
thawed product at a transfusable temperature between 30 and 37
˚
C.
The “Melt” option is used to prepare “thawed
liquid plasma” which may then be moved into the refrigerator for continued storage at 1
- 6
˚
C, or may be taken to
the patient’s bedside to be infused through a bedsi
de blood warmer.
The “Melt” option is often used in STAT
situations where the desired operation is intended to produce the maximum number of liquid plasma units, for a
much faster throughput. This is useful for building and maintaining a working inventory of refrigerated liquid
plasma.
7.9.4 STARTING
Press
one of the 2 start options “MELT” of “THAW”,
to start the thawing process. The following GUI will be
displayed:
FIGURE 33. Chamber A Thawing Screen.
Note:
Agitation will start automatically, once the thawing cycle begins.
Note:
During a Thaw or Melt cycle, you may see an Alert message that indicates that the bag has shifted. This
rare indication tends to be seen when plasma volume is 300mL or greater. Simply open the door, reposition the
ZipSleeve/Plasma product to hand straight down, close the door, and press OK to resume. You will finish the
complete cycle.
7.9.5 INTENTIONAL THAWING STOP
In some cases the thawing cycle may be stopped at a verified substance liquid stage (i.e. ice crystals free). Once the
chamber temperature reaches +15°C/59°F, the thawed substance (i.e. plasma) is thawed to a liquid state.
To abort the thawing cycle, at any stage,
press the “
STOP
” key. The following message screen will appear:
