SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
The Super X motorcycle has a separate hydraulic brake system for each wheel.
The front brake system uses a 1/2" bore master cylinder/fluid reservoir assembly mounted on the right side of the
handlebar. The master cylinder drives a four piston caliper against a single brake rotor mounted to the left side of the
front wheel hub. A electrical switch mounted below the front master cylinder/fluid reservoir follows the front brake
lever’s movement, energizing the brake light.
The rear brake system uses a 14 mm. bore master cylinder mounted to the frame near the right rider foot support. A
separate fluid reservoir is located directly above the master cylinder. The master cylinder drives a four piston caliper
against a single brake rotor mounted to the left side of the rear wheel hub. A electrical switch in the rear brake line
near the left passenger foot support senses hydraulic fluid pressure, energizing the brake light.
Caution
• Cleanliness is essential when servicing hydraulic brake components. Always ensure hands, tools, and work
surfaces are clean to avoid contamination.
• Use only DOT 5 (silicone based) hydraulic fluid from a sealed clean container. Using the wrong hydraulic
fluid, or allowing contaminants into the hydraulic system can damage brake system componants.
• Do not use mineral based products to clean brake parts. Use only denatured alcohol, DOT 5 hydraulic fluid,
or a solvent specifically recommended for brake/clutch systems for cleaning these parts.
WARNING
• Wear eye protection when removing or installing retaining rings. Retain rings can slip and cause serious eye
injury. To Avoid injury when removing or installing retaining rings, always use the correct size and type retaining
ring pliers and be sure the tips are not worn or damaged.
• To avoid blowing debris into your eyes and face, wear eye and face protection when working with compressed
air.
