Place the drive belt on the rear sprocket and install the

rear belt guard.

Install the left adjuster collar and castle nut. Tighten the

castle nut finger tight.

10. Turn the axle adjusters in until they seat into the adjuster
collars.

11. Install the rear muffler and muffler clamp.

12. Align the rear wheel.

2. MUFFLER SCREWS

3. BELT GUARD SCREWS
4. BELT GUARD

ALIGNMENT

Place the open end of the rear wheel alignment gauge

over the swing cage pivot nut.

Tool: Alignment gauge

EH-6999-0037

Slide the pointer along the rod until it aligns with the

center dimple of the rear axle. Tighten the pointer thumb
screw.

1. ALIGNMENT GAUGE

2. POINTER

Move the alignment gauge to the opposite location on the

other side of the motorcycle.

Without moving the alignment gauge pointer, turn the

rear axle adjuster in or out until the center dimple in the rear
axle aligns with the pointer tip.

Notice

Occasionally push the rear wheel forward to keep the
adjuster collars seated against the adjusters.

Repeat steps 1-4 on alternate sides of the wheel until the

distance from the swing cage pivot nut to the rear axle dimple
is equal on both sides of the motorcycle.

Remove the motorcycle from the lift and adjust drive belt

tension

(see DRIVE BELT page 1-3)

Tighten the adjuster jam nuts.

Tighten the rear axle castle nut.

Torque: 111 ft-lbs

Install a new rear axle cotter pin.

Caution

Always use a new cotter pin when installing the rear axle
nut.
