Introduction

This chapter explains how to connect your printer to a PC through 
either the parallel port or serial port. 

»

Note: 

If you’re connecting to a PC through an Ethernet network, refer 

to chapter 4, “Connecting to an Ethernet Network.” 

Overview

Turn off both the printer and the PC.

Connect the printer to the PC.

n

If you’re connecting to a PC through a parallel interface, con-
nect the printer to the PC as described in “Making a Parallel 
Connection” on page 3-3.

n

If you’re connecting to the PC through a serial interface, con-
nect the printer to the PC as described in “Making a Serial 
Connection” on page 3-5.

Note: 

If the printer is more than 6.5 feet (2 meters) from the PC, 

we recommend using a serial connection for better 
communication.

Turn on both the printer and the PC.

Install a printer driver.

See “PC Printing Software” on page 3-7.
